Toronto Island airport earns high praise
A Canadian runway has made the top 10 list of the world’s most scenic airport approaches. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, which sits on an island just a few hundred metres from the glittering business towers of Bay Street, finished No. 7 in a worldwide survey by PrivateFly, a global booking site for private charters. “Our poll has become an annual checklist for the well travelled, and offers a fascinating mix of global descents,” said Adam Twidell, the site’s chief executive and an experienced pilot.
New Zealand’s Queenstown Airport took top spot, followed by Las Vegas McCarran and Nice Cote d’Azur in France. Gibraltar Airport, London City and Cape Town, South Africa, were eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively. A total of 147 airfields were nominated. Unusual airports included Saba in the Caribbean, with the world’s shortest commercial runway, and the unique beach landing at Barra in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, Twidell said
