Universal Pictures announced that production is underway on Mena while confirming several new cast also. This international escapade on the outrageous (and real) feats of Barry Seal, a workhorse and pilot unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run based one of the largest covert operations in US history. Here’s what director Doug Liman, who reunited with his Edge of Tomorrow star Tom Cruise on the project, had said in a statement.

“I love stories of unlikely heroes who took over the government against the system, and Barry Seal, and our country, for an incredible ride. Interpreting his story has the makings of an entertaining movie, the satire in equal parts, excitement and comedy and always is surprising. ”

The supporting cast of Mena includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Jesse Plemons, Caleb Landry Jones, Jayma Mays, Benito Martinez, E. Roger Mitchell, Lola Kirke and Alejandro Edda. Cross Creek Pictures fully fund Mena. The producers include Cross Creek Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson, Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment Kim Roth, and Quadrant Pictures’ Doug Davidson.

Doug Liman creative team at Mena are César Charlone cinematographer, production designer Dan Weil (The Bourne Identity), editor Dylan Tichenor and costume designer Jenny Gering. Mena is until July filming in several Georgia counties, including Cherokee, Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinett, Morgan, Pickens and others. The film will be released by Universal Pictures on Friday, January 6, 2017.
